1. Airline's Medicine Ban Leaves Passenger In Coma.

The New Zealand Herald, Wednesday November 1, 2006, by James Ihaka

A diabetic man fell into a coma because the airport staff refused to let him take his insulin on board a flight from Auckland to Christchurch. Quantas yesterday apologized to Tui Peter Russell, who had a severe attack on the plane and was in the hospital for two weeks. Mr. Russell said check-in staff at Auckland Airport told him he couldn't not take his medication on board because it was dangerous.

2. Diabetes Camps

The American Diabetes Association has Camps all over the country for children with diabetes. This fun and safe environment is the perfect opportunity for kids of all ages to meet others like them who have diabetes. Your child will make new friends, reconnect with old friends, have fun, and learn more about diabetes management.

3. TCOYD Conference - EDITOR RECOMMENDATION

We recently attended a TCOYD (Taking Control Of Your Diabetes)

conference that we wanted to tell you about. Although, not specifically related to travel issues, it was a great conference that provides excellent speakers, seminars and forums for questions and answers on how to manage your diabetes. It was great.

TCOYD, Taking Control Of Your Diabetes, is an organization founded by Dr. Steve Edelman, MD, with its headquarters in San Diego. Dr. Edelman’s organization  coordinates and put’s on these events around the country. They cover a wide range of topics from exercise and nutrition to what's new in treatment and care of diabetes. They also have an area for vendors to exhibit the latest in services and products to manage your diabetes. We would highly recommend you attend these full day events when they come to your area. To find a schedule of the health fairs go to TCOYD.org. They are a great way to reinvigorate your attitude and learn more about what you can do to manage diabetes.

Dr. Edelman is widely published and an authority on diabetes control.
